ThrivaOS Overview

When a child’s device is in Focused Mode, they experience ThrivaOS - a curated environment designed for learning, tasks, and family connection without the distractions of games and entertainment apps.

ThrivaOS isn’t a separate operating system - it’s a focused experience layer that appears during Focused Mode. It provides:

  • Tasks & Schedule - View tasks, upcoming mode changes, and calendar events
  • AI Assistant - Help and support from Thriva’s AI
  • Approved Apps & Websites - Access only what parents have allowed
  • Habits Tracker - Track daily habits (with optional Habitica integration)
  • Rewards Shop - View and request rewards
  • Personalization - Choose themes and backgrounds

From your child’s view, Focused Mode means:

  • Regular apps and games are paused (not deleted, just unavailable)
  • ThrivaOS appears as their desktop/launcher
  • They can complete tasks, check their schedule, and use approved apps
  • When Free Time returns, everything goes back to normal

Children see their tasks and schedule:

  • What tasks need to be done today
  • Task details and due times
  • Completion checkmarks and rewards earned
  • Upcoming mode changes (when Free Time starts)
  • Calendar events (synced from parent’s Google Calendar)

The child-friendly AI helps with:

  • Understanding the current schedule
  • Answering questions about Thriva
  • Providing encouragement and support
  • Explaining why certain apps aren’t available

Apps and websites parents have marked as available:

  • Educational apps and learning platforms
  • Approved websites with icons and categories
  • Rich website cards showing site information

Daily habit tracking (with optional Habitica integration):

  • Track recurring habits with +/- scoring
  • See habit streaks and progress
  • Connect to Habitica for gamified habits

View and request family rewards:

  • See available rewards and costs
  • Check current rewards balance
  • Request redemptions (with parent approval)

During Focused Mode, ThrivaOS blocks:

  • Games (unless specifically approved)
  • Social media
  • Entertainment streaming
  • General web browsing (unless specific sites are approved)

These aren’t deleted - they’re waiting for Free Time.

Each platform uses a native application for the best experience:

On Windows, Thriva Desktop (a native WPF application) replaces the regular desktop:

  • Fullscreen experience
  • Cannot be minimized or bypassed
  • Alt+Tab shows only approved apps
  • Task Manager is restricted

On Android, Thriva Launcher (a native Android app) becomes the device launcher:

  • Swipe reveals the Thriva dashboard
  • Only approved apps appear
  • Cannot switch to other launchers
  • System settings are restricted

A web-based version is also available at dashboard.thriva.app for browser access, though most families use the native apps above.

ThrivaOS embodies the “words, not walls” approach:

  • It’s not punishment - it’s structure
  • Children helped decide when Focused Mode applies
  • Time is protected for their benefit (homework, learning)
  • They always know when Free Time is coming

You can personalize what’s available:

  • Add or remove approved apps
  • Configure the background/theme
  • Adjust which features are visible
  • Set educational priorities

You can see:

  • What tasks are being completed
  • How time in Focused Mode is spent
  • Whether children are engaging productively

If ThrivaOS isn’t working:

  • Too restrictive? Add more approved apps
  • Not focused enough? Review what’s available
  • Child frustrated? Have a conversation about why this structure helps
