Apps & Websites Overview

Thriva lets you control which apps and websites are available during each mode. Instead of blocking everything, you curate what’s appropriate for learning time versus free time.

We don’t believe in surveillance or sneaking around children. Thriva’s approach is:

  1. Clear expectations - Children know what’s available when
  2. Reasoned decisions - Apps are available or paused for clear reasons
  3. Appropriate flexibility - Educational tools during focused time, entertainment during free time
  4. No guessing games - Nothing is secretly blocked
ModeApps Available
Free TimeAll apps (with any family-wide blocks)
Focused ModeEducational and approved apps only
Quiet TimeDevice is fully rested

Different children can have different rules:

  • A teenager might have more apps available in Focused Mode
  • A younger child might have more restrictions in Free Time
  • Each child’s needs are considered individually

Apps that are allowed in all modes:

  • Educational tools
  • School apps
  • Approved communication apps

Apps paused during Focused Mode but available during Free Time:

  • Games
  • Entertainment
  • Social media (age-appropriate)

Content that’s never appropriate:

  • Age-inappropriate apps
  • Dangerous content
  • Apps you’ve decided aren’t right for your family

Native applications installed on the device:

  • Windows programs (.exe)
  • Android apps
  • Managed through app rules

Web content accessed through browsers:

  • Managed through website rules
  • Can approve specific sites
  • Can block entire categories

Most families approach app management in steps:

Begin with defaults and see what your child uses.

Watch which apps get used when and for how long.

Discuss which apps belong in which category.

Make changes based on family agreement.

As children grow, rules should evolve.
