Habitica Integration

Habitica turns habit-building into a role-playing game. When connected to Thriva, completed tasks can sync with your child’s Habitica account, earning them gold, experience, and equipment for their character.

Habitica is a free habit-tracking app that gamifies productivity:

  • Create a character - Wizard, warrior, healer, or rogue
  • Complete tasks - Earn gold and experience points
  • Level up - Unlock abilities and equipment
  • Fight monsters - Defeat bosses with your party
  • Join guilds - Connect with other players

Many children (and adults!) find that gamification makes routine tasks more engaging.

When you connect your child’s Habitica account to Thriva:

  1. Tasks created in Thriva appear in Habitica as “To Dos”
  2. When tasks are completed in ThrivaOS, they sync to Habitica
  3. Habitica rewards the completion with gold/XP
  4. Your child’s character progresses

The tasks can be completed from either app - they stay synchronized.

  • Your child needs a Habitica account
  • You’ll need their Habitica User ID and API Token
  1. Have your child log into Habitica at habitica.com
  2. Click the user menu (top right)
  3. Go to SettingsSite Data
  4. Copy the User ID and API Token

Note: Keep these credentials secure. They provide full access to the Habitica account.

  1. Open the Parent Portal
  2. Go to your child’s profile
  3. Click Integrations in the sidebar
  4. Click Connect Habitica
  5. Enter the User ID and API Token
  6. Click Connect

Once connected, you’ll see a green checkmark next to Habitica. You can click “Test Connection” to verify it’s working.

  • Tasks created in Thriva appear as Habitica “To Dos”
  • Task completions in ThrivaOS mark them done in Habitica
  • New tasks sync within minutes
  • Habitica dailies, habits, and rewards
  • Tasks created directly in Habitica
  • Party, guild, or social features

While Thriva syncs tasks, your child can use all of Habitica’s features:

They can customize their avatar, choose a class, and equip items.

Gold earned from tasks can buy in-game items, custom rewards, or even real-world privileges you set up.

They can join a party with friends or family members for collaborative boss fights.

Join community challenges for extra motivation.

Some families use Habitica together:

  • Family party - Everyone joins the same party and fights bosses together
  • Shared accountability - When someone misses a daily, the whole party takes damage
  • Parent participation - Adults can model good habits

This works especially well when everyone is working on self-improvement together.

If your child is already motivated by the tasks themselves, gamification might not add much. Some kids thrive with it; others don’t need it.

Some children focus on earning rewards rather than actually completing tasks. If this happens, consider requiring parent verification.

Habitica is engaging - make sure it doesn’t become another screen time sink.

Take interest in their character, ask about their quests, celebrate their achievements.

  • Check that the connection shows as active
  • Verify the API token hasn’t expired
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting

If the same task appears twice, check that it wasn’t created in both Thriva and Habitica manually.

API tokens can expire if Habitica’s password changes. Reconnect with new credentials if this happens.

If Habitica isn’t working for your family:

  1. Go to child’s profile → Integrations
  2. Click Disconnect next to Habitica
  3. Confirm disconnection

Tasks will remain in Thriva but no longer sync to Habitica.
