Scheduling Overview
Understanding Device Availability Plans
Section titled “Understanding Device Availability Plans”A Device Availability Plan is your family’s agreement about when devices are available for different activities. Instead of constant negotiations, you create the structure once and Thriva handles the rest.
Why Schedules Matter
Section titled “Why Schedules Matter”Without clear expectations, every screen time decision becomes a negotiation. “Can I have more time?” “Why do I have to stop now?” These battles drain energy from what matters most - your relationship with your child.
Device Availability Plans change the conversation:
- Rules become agreements made together
- Transitions are expected, not surprising
- Children learn to manage time within boundaries
- Parents spend less energy enforcing limits
How Scheduling Works
Section titled “How Scheduling Works”Thriva schedules work at the child level, not the device level. When a schedule changes your child’s mode, it applies to ALL their devices automatically.
Example: If Luna’s bedtime schedule starts Quiet Time at 8:30 PM, her tablet, laptop, and any other devices all transition together.
The Three Modes
Section titled “The Three Modes”Schedules transition between Thriva’s three device modes:
| Mode | What It Means | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Free Time | Full device access | Weekends, earned time, breaks |
| Focused Mode | ThrivaOS only (learning, tasks, family tools) | School hours, homework time |
| Quiet Time | Device rests | Bedtime, family meals, outdoor time |
Building Your First Schedule
Section titled “Building Your First Schedule”Most families start with these essential schedules:
1. Bedtime Routine
Section titled “1. Bedtime Routine”Transition to Quiet Time before bed. Most families set this 30-60 minutes before actual bedtime to allow wind-down time.
2. Morning Structure
Section titled “2. Morning Structure”Start the day in Focused Mode to prevent getting lost in games before school.
3. Homework Time
Section titled “3. Homework Time”Automatic Focused Mode during homework hours keeps distractions at bay.
4. Weekend Flexibility
Section titled “4. Weekend Flexibility”More Free Time on weekends, with some structure for chores and family time.
Collaborative Planning
Section titled “Collaborative Planning”The best schedules are created with your child, not imposed on them. When children help design their schedule:
- They understand the “why” behind each boundary
- They feel respected and heard
- They’re more likely to follow agreed-upon rules
- Exceptions become conversations, not conflicts
Start the conversation: “Let’s figure out a schedule that works for everyone. When do you do your best work? When do you need breaks?”
