Habitica Integration

Connect Thriva with Habitica to gamify your children’s tasks. Completed tasks earn gold, XP, and progress their RPG character.

What is Habitica?

Habitica is a free habit and productivity app that turns real-life tasks into a role-playing game:

• Create a character - Choose a class and customize your avatar
• Complete tasks - Earn gold and experience points
• Level up - Unlock abilities and equipment
• Fight bosses - Team up with others to defeat monsters

How the Integration Works

When connected:

1. Tasks created in Thriva appear in Habitica
2. Completing tasks in ThrivaOS marks them complete in Habitica
3. Your child’s Habitica character earns rewards
4. Progress syncs between both platforms

Setting Up

1. Create a Habitica Account

If your child doesn’t have one:

1. Go to habitica.com
2. Create an account
3. Set up their character

2. Get Habitica Credentials

1. Log into Habitica
2. Click the user menu → Settings
3. Go to Site Data (under API)
4. Copy the User ID and API Token

Keep these credentials secure!

3. Connect in Thriva

1. Go to child’s profile in Parent Portal
2. Click Integrations
3. Click Connect Habitica
4. Enter the User ID and API Token
5. Click Connect

4. Verify Connection

Click “Test Connection” to confirm it’s working.

Using the Integration

Task Sync

• Thriva tasks appear as Habitica “To Dos”
• Complete in ThrivaOS → Complete in Habitica
• Rewards are earned automatically

Character Progression

Children earn:

• Gold - For completing tasks
• Experience - To level up
• Items - From quests and rewards

Habitica Features

While Thriva syncs tasks, children can use all Habitica features:

• Shop with gold
• Join parties
• Fight bosses with friends
• Collect pets and mounts

What Syncs (And What Doesn’t)

Synced

• Thriva tasks → Habitica To Dos
• Task completions (both directions)
• New task creation from Thriva

Not Synced

• Habitica Dailies (recurring habits)
• Habitica Habits (positive/negative)
• Tasks created in Habitica only
• Custom Habitica rewards

Best Practices

Age Appropriateness

Habitica is generally appropriate for children, but:

• Review the content with younger children
• Check party/guild content if they join groups
• Monitor in-game chat if enabled

Motivation Balance

Habitica is great motivation, but:

• Don’t let the game become the goal
• Real task completion matters most
• Balance game time with other activities

Family Parties

Consider creating a family party:

• Parents and kids work together
• Boss battles require everyone’s participation
• Builds accountability

Managing the Integration

Viewing Status

Check connection status in child’s Integrations section.

Reconnecting

If sync stops:

1. Token may have expired (changes with password)
2. Disconnect and reconnect with new credentials

Disconnecting

1. Go to child’s Integrations
2. Click Disconnect next to Habitica
3. Tasks remain in Thriva but stop syncing

Troubleshooting

Tasks Not Appearing in Habitica

• Check connection is active
• Wait a few minutes for sync
• Verify the Habitica account is correct

Completions Not Syncing

• Ensure task was completed in ThrivaOS
• Check if Habitica shows it as complete already
• Try completing a test task

Can’t Connect

• Verify User ID and API Token are correct
• Check if Habitica is accessible
• API Token changes when password changes - get a new one

Character Not Earning Rewards

• Completions sync to Habitica To Dos
• Gold/XP is awarded by Habitica when completed
• Check Habitica history for completion records
