Android Troubleshooting
Having trouble with Thriva on Android? This guide covers common issues and solutions.
Installation Issues
Section titled “Installation Issues””Install blocked” or “Unknown sources”
Section titled “”Install blocked” or “Unknown sources””Android blocks apps from outside the Play Store by default.
Solution:
- Open Settings → Security (or Privacy)
- Enable “Unknown sources” or “Install unknown apps”
- If prompted for a specific app, allow your browser to install apps
- Try the installation again
APK won’t download
Section titled “APK won’t download”Some browsers block APK downloads.
Solution:
- Try Chrome browser
- Try direct link: downloads.thriva.app
- Clear browser cache and try again
”App not installed” error
Section titled “”App not installed” error”Possible causes:
- Not enough storage space
- Corrupted download
- Conflicting existing installation
Solution:
- Check storage (Settings → Storage)
- Delete the APK and download again
- If Thriva was previously installed, uninstall it first
Permission Issues
Section titled “Permission Issues”Accessibility permission won’t stay enabled
Section titled “Accessibility permission won’t stay enabled”Some phone manufacturers aggressively kill background services.
Solution (varies by brand):
Samsung:
- Settings → Battery → App power management → Add Thriva to “Never sleeping apps”
Xiaomi/MIUI:
- Settings → Apps → Thriva → Enable “Autostart”
- Security app → Permissions → Autostart → Enable Thriva
Huawei:
- Settings → Battery → App launch → Set Thriva to “Manual” with all toggles ON
OnePlus:
- Settings → Battery → Battery optimization → Find Thriva → “Don’t optimize”
Device Admin permission not working
Section titled “Device Admin permission not working”Solution:
- Go to Settings → Security → Device admin apps
- Enable Thriva manually
- If grayed out, another app may conflict - check with IT if this is a work device
Can’t find Thriva in permission lists
Section titled “Can’t find Thriva in permission lists”Solution:
- Force close Thriva and reopen
- Restart the phone
- Reinstall the app
Mode Changes Not Applying
Section titled “Mode Changes Not Applying”Device shows “Offline”
Section titled “Device shows “Offline””Check:
- Is the phone connected to internet (WiFi or mobile data)?
- Is airplane mode off?
- Is Thriva still running?
Solution:
- Open Thriva app
- Check connection status
- Tap “Sync” if available
App is still accessible in Focused Mode
Section titled “App is still accessible in Focused Mode”Focused Mode should limit app access.
Check:
- Is Accessibility enabled for Thriva?
- Is “Display over other apps” enabled?
- Is the correct child linked to this device?
Solution:
- Verify all permissions are granted
- Force close and reopen Thriva
- Restart the phone
Quiet Time not locking device
Section titled “Quiet Time not locking device”Check:
- Is Device Admin permission enabled?
- Is battery optimization disabled for Thriva?
Solution:
- Settings → Security → Device admin apps → Enable Thriva
- Disable battery optimization (see brand-specific steps above)
Battery and Performance
Section titled “Battery and Performance”High battery usage
Section titled “High battery usage”Thriva should use minimal battery. If it’s draining quickly:
Check:
- Is the Accessibility service running constantly due to a loop?
- Are there many permission prompts appearing repeatedly?
Solution:
- Restart the phone
- If problem persists, reinstall Thriva
- Contact support with battery usage screenshot
Phone feels slow
Section titled “Phone feels slow”Thriva shouldn’t affect performance noticeably.
Try:
- Restart the phone
- Clear Thriva cache (Settings → Apps → Thriva → Storage → Clear cache)
- Reinstall if problem persists
App Issues
Section titled “App Issues”Thriva app crashes on open
Section titled “Thriva app crashes on open”Solution:
- Clear app data (Settings → Apps → Thriva → Storage → Clear data)
- Re-register the device with a new code
- If persists, reinstall the app
Can’t enter registration code
Section titled “Can’t enter registration code”Check:
- Is the code exactly 8 characters? (uppercase letters and numbers like
A7F2B401) - Is it within 1 hour of generation?
- Has the code already been used on another device?
- Is internet working?
Solution: Generate a new code from the Parent Portal (Devices → Add Device → Generate Code).
Uninstalling Thriva
Section titled “Uninstalling Thriva”To remove Thriva:
- First, disable Device Admin:
- Settings → Security → Device admin apps
- Disable Thriva
- Then uninstall:
- Settings → Apps → Thriva → Uninstall

Section titled “Still Having Issues?”If these solutions don’t help:
- Use the AI assistant in the Parent Portal
- Include your:
- Phone model and Android version
- Screenshot of any error messages
- What you’ve already tried
- Email support@thriva.app
