Android Setup
Thriva works on Android phones and tablets running Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later. This section covers everything you need to get started.
Quick Start
Section titled “Quick Start”- Download and install Thriva
- Grant the required permissions
- Register with an 8-character code from the Parent Portal
- Link the device to a child in the Parent Portal
- Set a mode or schedule to begin

Required Permissions
Section titled “Required Permissions”Thriva needs several permissions to work effectively:

| Accessibility | Detect current app, manage app access |
| Device Admin | Lock device during Quiet Time |
| Usage Access | Track app usage for reports |
| Display Over Apps | Show Focused Mode interface |
All permissions are explained during setup. We only ask for what’s necessary.
How It Works on Android
Section titled “How It Works on Android”Thriva runs as a background service that:
- Monitors the current mode set by parents
- Manages app access during Focused Mode
- Locks the device during Quiet Time
- Reports usage to the Parent Portal
One Device Per Child
Section titled “One Device Per Child”Unlike Windows (where multiple children can share a computer), Android devices are typically assigned to one child:
- Each phone/tablet links to one child profile
- That child’s schedule applies to the whole device
- Changing the child’s mode affects their device immediately
Battery and Performance
Section titled “Battery and Performance”Thriva is designed to be lightweight:
- Minimal battery impact (typically < 2%)
- No constant GPS tracking
- Background syncing every few minutes

Updates
Section titled “Updates”Unlike Windows, Android updates must be done manually for now:
- Download the new APK from downloads.thriva.app
- Install over the existing app
- Permissions are preserved
