Parent AI Assistant
Section titled “Parent AI Assistant”The parent AI assistant is your intelligent helper for managing Thriva and understanding your family’s digital wellness. Think of it as a knowledgeable friend who knows your setup and can help you make good decisions.
Accessing the AI
Section titled “Accessing the AI”- Log into the Parent Portal at parents.thriva.app
- Click AI Assistant in the navigation
- Or look for the sparkle icon throughout the interface
What You Can Ask
Section titled “What You Can Ask”Quick Questions
Section titled “Quick Questions”Feature help:
- “How do I create a schedule?”
- “What’s the difference between modes?”
- “How do temporary overrides work?”
Status checks:
- “What mode is Emma in right now?”
- “Why is the laptop in Quiet Time?”
- “What tasks did Jordan complete today?”
Troubleshooting:
- “The Windows service isn’t connecting - what should I check?”
- “Why isn’t the schedule applying?”
- “How do I fix this error?”
Planning and Advice
Section titled “Planning and Advice”Schedule suggestions:
- “What bedtime schedule would you recommend for a 10-year-old?”
- “How should I handle homework time?”
- “What’s a good weekend structure?”
Approach guidance:
- “My daughter is resisting the new schedule. Any suggestions?”
- “How do I have a conversation about screen time limits?”
- “What’s worked for other families with teens?”
Pattern insights:
- “What times does Luna typically use her devices?”
- “Are there patterns in when Jordan asks for overrides?”
- “How is our current schedule working?”
Conversation Features
Section titled “Conversation Features”Context Awareness
Section titled “Context Awareness”The AI remembers your conversation and can follow up on previous topics.
You: “Set up a bedtime schedule for Emma.” AI: [Helps create schedule] You: “Actually, make it 30 minutes later on Fridays.” AI: [Understands you mean Emma’s bedtime schedule]
Taking Actions
Section titled “Taking Actions”The AI can help you take actions, with your confirmation:
- Creating schedules
- Setting temporary overrides
- Sending messages to children
- Configuring settings
It will always show you what it’s about to do before making changes.
Multi-Turn Problem Solving
Section titled “Multi-Turn Problem Solving”For complex issues, the AI works through problems step by step:
You: “The Android app isn’t working properly.” AI: “I’d be happy to help troubleshoot. Can you tell me what you’re seeing? Is the app opening at all, or is there a specific error?” You: “It opens but says ‘Not Registered’” AI: “That usually means the device needs to be linked to a child. Have you completed the registration process with a code from the Parent Portal?”
Conversation History
Section titled “Conversation History”Viewing Past Conversations
Section titled “Viewing Past Conversations”Click the history icon to see previous conversations. You can resume any past conversation to continue where you left off.
Starting Fresh
Section titled “Starting Fresh”Click “New Conversation” to start a new topic without previous context.
Deleting History
Section titled “Deleting History”You can delete individual conversations or clear all history in Settings.
AI Notes
Section titled “AI Notes”The AI learns about your family over time to give better suggestions.
What It Learns
Section titled “What It Learns”- Communication preferences (detailed vs. concise)
- Strategies that have worked for your family
- Common questions you ask
- Context about your situation
Viewing AI Notes
Section titled “Viewing AI Notes”Go to AI Assistant → Notes tab to see what the AI has learned.
Editing Notes
Section titled “Editing Notes”You can add, modify, or delete notes. This helps the AI understand your preferences.
Example Notes
Section titled “Example Notes”- “Family prefers collaborative approach to rule-setting”
- “Both parents work from home, schedules need flexibility”
- “Emma responds well to earning rewards, Jordan prefers natural consequences”
Tips for Good Conversations
Section titled “Tips for Good Conversations”Be Specific
Section titled “Be Specific”Instead of “Help with schedules,” try “I need a homework schedule for my 8-year-old who gets home at 3:30 PM.”
Provide Context
Section titled “Provide Context”“Emma has been asking for more game time” helps the AI understand the situation.
Ask Follow-ups
Section titled “Ask Follow-ups”If an answer isn’t quite right, ask for clarification or alternatives.
Give Feedback
Section titled “Give Feedback”Let the AI know when suggestions work or don’t - this helps it learn.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”The AI is helpful but has boundaries:
- Can’t bypass security - Won’t help circumvent parental controls
- Can’t access device content - Doesn’t know what’s on screens
- Might have outdated info - Very recent changes might not be reflected
- Isn’t a therapist - For serious concerns, consult professionals
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”- Conversations are private to your family account
- Data helps improve Thriva but doesn’t train external AI models
- You can delete conversations at any time
